Manager: Have a seat... So you're from Italy?

Candidate: Yes, I've been to America only 6 months.

Manager: Really? Your English is very good. 

Candidate: Thanks, I'm trying. I study English at night.

Manager: Very good... And what job are you applying for?

Candidate: Factory worker. My friend, Jerry Morton, told me you have an opening.

Manager: Yes, that's right. Have you worked in a factory before?

Candidate: No, I haven't, but I'm good with my hands and learn fast.

Manager: What did you do in your country?

Candidate: I was a foreman for a construction company for 5 years.

Manager: What qualifications have you got?

Candidate: High school.

Manager: Any special training and skills?

Candidate: Yes, in using tools and equipment for my job.

Manager: Mm-hmm... Well, I need someone to work in the assembly room at the cutting machine. You work with three or four other people cutting paper for boxes. Are you good at machines?

Candidate: Oh, yes. I'm sure I can do the job. Is it full time?

Manager: Yes. The hours are 7:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M. The job pays $3.65 to start, with a raise after six months if you're doing well.

Candidate: That's fine. Is there any training available?

Manager: The other workers will train you for this job. Later we'll train you to use other machines. Do you have any other questions?

Candidate: Yes. Can you tell me about the benefits?

Manager: We have a good insurance plan for you, you get two weeks vacation after you've worked one year, and you get six days on leave a year.

Candidate: Fine. What's about layoffs?

Manager: That should be no problem. We haven't had any layoffs here in two years. In fact, We'd like you to work overtime once in a while on Saturday.
