Động từ nguyên mẫu và danh động từ.

1/ Gerund (V-ing)

Danh động từ là động từ được thêm -ing, và có chức năng cùa một danh từ và động từ..

a) Một số các động từ theo sau là danh động từ làm túc từ:

to admit                to continue              to give up              to quit

to acknowledge     to discuss                to imagine              to recall

to appreciate         to like                      to justify                to recommend

to avoid                to dislike                  to keep                  to resent

can’t help              to endure                to mind                  to resist

can’t stand            to enjoy                   to miss                   to rist

Ex: They admitted stealing the money.

I dislike being asked personal questions.

b) Một số nhóm từ động từ (phrasal verbs) theo sau là danh động từ:

care for              leave off                 see about                 look forward to

keep on             put off                   give up                     be for / against

Ex: I don’t care for standing in queues.

He put off making a decision till he had more information.

c) Sau giới từ ta dùng danh động từ.

Ex: What can you do besides typing?

I’m not keen on gambling. I’m afraid of losing.

d) Sau một số nhóm từ ngữ (expression):

Ex: It’s no use / good persuading him to leave the town.

This book is worth reading. It’s very interesting.

2/ Infinitive. Động từ nguyên mẫu.

Động từ nguyên mẫu được dùng trong các cấu trúc sau:

a) Sau một số động từ: afford hope promise pretend

agree         attempt        fail               threaten

offer          decide           arrange       refuse

appear      dare               manage      plan

Ex: As it was late, we decided to take a taxi home,

b) Sau động từ có túc từ:

V + object + to- infinitive

fell             remind            warm            persuade

order         force               invite            enable

Ex: Remind me to phone Ann tomorrow.

He warned US not to touch anything.

c) Một số động từ có 2 cấu trúc:

advise           recommend             encourage

allow             permit

d) Make / Let / Help + object + bare infinitive (động từ nguyên mẫu không To)

Ex: She didn’t let me read the letter.

They made me do it.

Passive Gerund & Infinitive

1/ Passive Gerund:

being + past participle

Ex: Tom enjoyed being asked for signature.

2/ Passive Infinitive:

to be + past participle

Ex: He refused to be taken to hospital.
