The Red Cross

The Red Cross is an international agency dedicated, in time of war, to reducing the sufferings of wounded soldiers, civilians, and prisoners of war. In time of peace, it gives medical aid and other help to victims of major disasters such as floods, earthquakes, epidemics, and famines.

Initiative for founding the Red Cross came from a Swiss called Jean Henri Dunant. Appalled by the almost complete lack of care for wounded soldiers, he appealed to the leaders of nations to found societies devoted to the aid of the wounded in wartime. A conference was held in Geneva in 1964, and official delegates of 12 nations signed the first Geneva Convention, laying down rules for the treatment and protection of the wounded and the disaster-stricken.

The International Red Cross has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Today, the total number of national Red Cross societies from all over the world has mounted to 160. the International Conference of the Red Cross is usually held every four years in different countries.

Ngày nay càng lúc càng có nhiều phụ nữ tham gia vào lực lượng lao động được trả lương trên thế giới. Họ đại diện cho đa số lực lượng lao động trong nhiều lãnh vực. Thậm chí trong các quổc gia nơi có ít phụ nừ trong thành phần lao động ăn lương, như các quốc gia Á-rập, thì số lượng phụ nữ đi làm cũng đang gia tăng. Việc làm được trả lương rỗ ràng đã mang đến các lợi ích về kinh tế và xã hội cho phụ nữ. Trong quá khứ phụ nữ thường không được quyền làm việc ăn lương và do vậy họ phải lệ thuộc vào chồng hay cha về kinh tế. Phụ nữ ngày nay được học hành tốt hơn và có thể tự giúp mình thăng cấp dễ dàng hơn trong quá khứ. Việc có học vấn và sự thay đổi về vị thế kinh tế giúp phụ nừ được tự do hơn. Firstly, in education, women nowadays are well educated, that is they can enjoy the benefits of education in every level. Women are not confined in the walls of the family with childbearing or childrearing. They participate in almost every area of public life. Many women have gained the high ranks in social or governmental sector. As a result of this women no longer depend economically on their husbands or families.

In addition, they do not worry about the number of children thanks to new thoughts on lifestyle. At present people no more see a family of very many children, six or more. And domestic chores are not a burden for women because they are done by machine. Consequently women at present can promote themselves in social life much more easily.
