I partially agree with the idea that traffic jam in Ha Noi is mainly caused by poor awareness of traffic participants because of the following reasons. It is obvious that participant’s low awareness is one of the reasons for the traffic jam in Hanoi. A lot of traffic participants ignore the traffic law. They continue to drive when the red light turns on. They drive on the lanes for other vehicles or on the pavements to avoid getting stuck. As a consequence, traffic congestion happens. However, there are still other important factors that cause the traffic jam in Hanoi. Firstly, transportation infrastructure does not meet the transporting demand of Hanoi’s citizens. Many roads are too small and narrow for the traffic participants to go. People also have few selections of ways for their routines. They have to go on the same roads when they go home and go to work; meanwhile, a lot of people have the same routines. Therefore, traffic jam is unavoidable. Secondly, the increase in the number of vehicles in traffic is a part of reasons. Statistics indicates that there are around one hundred and fifty thousand cars and millions of motorcycles used in traffic. Each year, the increase in the number of vehicles is much greater than the increase in the population of Hanoi. This over excess of traffic vehicles increases the likelihood of traffic jam in Hanoi. In summary, poor awareness of traffic participants is only one of many reasons for the traffic jam in Hanoi. Inadequate transportation infrastructure and high number of vehicles in traffic substantially contribute to this problem.
