For acceptance of completed products, final inspection/testing is utilized. As the last step in the quality inspection of manufactured products, final inspection is very important in ensuring all the products are at the required quality levels with no defects before delivery to the clients. Products are not released, and processes are not approved until all inspection/test activities have been satisfactorily completed and the appropriate documentation is available and authorized.
Prospective users:
This can be used by the quality control function set up and implement the final quality inspection.
This practice can be applied to all kinds of factories.
ProblemS addressed
- Defects of final products delivered to clients which can adversely affect the reputation of the producers with their customers.
Process
Final inspection consists of a verification of satisfactory receiving and in-process inspections/tests, as well as completion of the remaining inspections/tests to assure that the finished products/processes conform to specified requirements.
Final inspection including assigning final inspectors, provide them with good guidelines, instruction and working conditions to conduct good inspection of the final products, then storing products which passed the final inspections in a separate place while the ones which did not pass the checking are classified by types of defects and provide feedbacks to production and prior-inspection stages.
- Assign final inspectors. Final inspectors should be well trained in conducting the inspection of the final or pre-delivery products, especially those which are not inspected by the inline and end-line inspection such as brand labels or packaging.
- Final products waiting for final inspection should be hanged or placed in a way which is convenient for the final inspection.
- Provide final inspectors with final inspection report forms, and list of key inspection points.
- Uniform for final quality inspectors is a good practice to ensure that they look distinguished from other workers.
- The final quality control station should be logically arranged which contributes largely to the improvement of work quality and productivity. There should be specification sheets posted of the wall or boards. Sufficient light is essential.
- QC instruction should be clear and put in working place of final inspectors for easy reference.
- Samples of defect are put in working place where inspectors can easily see and access.
- Tools for quality inspection or measurement should be made available at the QC workstation for the convenient use of the final QC staff
- Once any error detected, an error ticket will be issued and attached to the defective product.
- Classify defective products by types (or sources) of defects, keep them on separate places to return back to the production for repair.
- Using final inspection reports or check sheets to record the defects
- Summarize the major defects for reporting and discussion for improvement.
- Provide feedbacks to inline and end-line inspectors as well as production
- The trolleys are logically designed for use at quality control phase, which help to avoid wrinkles on the products; reduce working step and at the same time keep the workshop tidier.
