1/ Bare infinitive (Infinitive without To) or Full infinitive (Infinitive with To)

To-infinitive: là động từ nguyên mẫu có To đứng trước, còn được gọi là full infinitive để phân biệt với bare infinitive là động từ nguyên mẫu không có To đứng trước.

a) Một số động từ theo sau là động từ nguyên mẫu với các cấu trúc sau:

1/ Main verb + to - infinitive

agree                  offer               decide                appear

refuse                 attempt          plan                   seem

promise              manage          arrange              pretend

threaten             fail                   hope                 afford

Ex: He refused to help US.

2/ Main verb + object + to - infinitive

want           expect           would like           persuade

ask              help              would prefer        teach

tell              remind           force                  enable

order           warn               invite                 get

Ex: He warned me not to touch anything.

I got Jack to repair my bike.

b) Một số động từ theo sau là động từ nguyên mẫu không To (bare infinitive)

let            feel             see

help         hear            had better

make        watch         would rather

Ex:

They let me go, they watched me drive off. He made me move my car.

I’d rather wait till tomorrow.

“You’d better start at once”, he said.

* Động từ nguyên mẫu không có To còn được dùng sau các động từ cảm quan (verb of perception) như hear, see, watch, observe, feel... để diễn tả hành động mà ta nhìn, nghe, thấy,... từ đầu tới cuối.

Ex: I saw an old man walk across the Street.
