1. Giới từ

1.1. Giới từ theo sau động từ

a. About

Ví dụ:

agree about: đồng ý

dream about: mơ về

think about: nghĩ về

talk about: nói, nói chuyện về

tell about: nói, kể về

b. At

Ví dụ:

laugh at: cười nhạo, chế nhiễu

look at: nhìn, ngắm, xem

stare at: nhìn chằm chằm

c. For

Ví dụ:

ask for: hỏi xin

apply for: (nạp đơn) xin (một công việc,…)

look for: tìm, tìm kiếm

search for: tìm kiếm

wait for: chờ đợi điều gì/ai đó

thank someone for: cám ơn ai vì điều gì

d. From

Ví dụ:

prevent someone from: ngăn cản

discourage someone from: làm ai nản lòng, làm ngã lòng

stop someone from: chặn lại, làm dừng lại

e. In

Ví dụ:

believe in: tin tưởng, tin cậy vào

succeed in: thành công trong

take part in: tham gia vào

participate in: tham gia vào

f. Of

Ví dụ:

die of: chết vì

dream of: mơ về

think of: nghĩ về

remind someone of : gợi cho ai nhớ về

g. On

Ví dụ:

concentrate on: tập trung vào

congratulate someone on: chúc mừng ai

depend on: phụ thuộc vào, lệ thuvộc ào

rely on: tin vào, tin cậy vào

insist on: khăng khăng đòi, cố nài

h. To

Ví dụ:

be used to: quen với

belong to: thuộc về

explain something to someone: giải thích

listen to: nghe, lắng nghe

reply to: trả lời, đáp lại

i. With

Ví dụ:

agree with: đồng ý với

argue with: cãi vã/tranh luận với

begin with: bắt đầu với

deal with: đối xử

1.2. Giới từ chỉ thời gian

a. At

at + một điểm thời gian cụ thể

at + night

Ví dụ:

We have class at 9 o’clock.

b. In

in + tháng/năm cụ thể

in + the morning/the afternoon/the evening

Ví dụ:

My birthday is in January.

c. On

on + ngày trong tuần

on + ngày tháng năm

Ví dụ:

- I have class on Monday.

- I was born on January 31, 1996.

d. From ... to:

from (a specific time) to (a specific time) (từ … đến)

Ví dụ:

We have class from 8.00 to 10.00.

e. For

for + (a period of time)

(Ta dùng for + một khoảng thời gian để nói rằng một cái gì đó diễn ra bao lâu rồi / hay một người đã làm gì đó được bao lâu rồi.)

Ví dụ:

I am going away for a week in August.

f. By

by + (a point of time)

by + một điểm thời gian có nghĩa là “trước, chậm nhất là”

Ví dụ:

I posted this letter today, so they should receive it by Friday.

g. After

after + time

Ví dụ:

We’ll leave after lunch.

I’ll wait for you in front of the restaurant after shortly seven.

h. Between

between + (a point of time) + and + (a point of time)

Ví dụ:

I’m usually free between Saturday and Monday.

i. Till/Until

till/until + a definite point of time

Ví dụ:

It may last till Sunday.

1.3. Trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn

a. Giới từ on có nghĩa:

- Ở trên

Ví dụ:

There is a picture on the wall.

Don’t walk on the grass.

- Ở một đại lộ, một con đường

Ví dụ:

He lives on Nguyen Gia Thieu Street.

She lives on Grove Boulevard.

- Ở trên/trong hoặc vào trong một phương tiện chuyên chở

Ví dụ:

They are on the plane from Sai Gon to Ha Noi.

We will have lunch on the train.

- Trên, dựa trên hoặc gắn vào người nào/vật gì

Ví dụ:

He is riding on horseback.

She’s wearing a ring on her thumb finger.

b. At + địa chỉ

Ví dụ:

He lives at 84 Nguyen Gia Thieu Street.

c. In + tên nước/thành phố

Ví dụ:

Tom lives in the United Kingdom.

He lives in Manchester City.
