After the discovery of a low temperature spin-gapped phase in α’-NaV2O5, this compound has attracted a great deal of interest as a second example of an inorganic spin-Peierls material, even with a significantly higher transition temperature than observed for CuGeO3. The properties of NaV2O5, however, have proven to be quite controversial. A number of recent experiments do not conform to the current understanding of an ordinary spin-Peierls system.
